PROSPECT

Prospect Place
Brooklyn, New York

Faced with a quandary of choosing between the Manhattan loft or Brooklyn townhouse, the clients chose both. Adapting the defining aspects of loft spaces to fit within the townhouse footprint, the owners now enjoy a plethora of light and spaciousness, and multi-floor living.

Ceiling geometries were expanded to create a double-height volume of space along the garden facing side of the home and full height windows installed.

The stairwell was moved to snug up to the side wall, opening the width of the home. Inset bookshelves along the adjacent walls create a decorative and functional aspect, housing the extensive book and publication collection of the publishing-industry homeowners.

Subtle variants of hues and materials show up within the overall monochromatic, loft-inspired color palette. New furnishings were integrated with the clients existing antiques and smaller spaces like baths enlivened with bold color statements. Ultimately, the feel is one of the open, lofty space inserted within an exterior townhouse structure.
