HOLLY COURT
Holly Court
Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey
The family of this two-story home needed a space that reflected their evolved aesthetic and functional needs. By reconceptualizing the space, rooms that sat dark and unused became central hubs for a home designed for activity for large family gatherings and enjoying the calm when it’s just the two parents.
Walls were removed to open spaces on the ground and upper levels. Floors were elevated with Scandinavian white oak and walls freshened with a soft white paint complimented by pale gray trim work. Windows were enlarged, and in the living room parallel walls of windows fills the lower level of the home with diffused light. Among the neutral backdrop, strategically located beacons of color connect spaces and add electrifying pops of color.
A load-bearing ceiling beam became the template for a ceiling detail that unites the now expansive living room, making two rooms, one. In the kitchen, traditional table and kitchen island typologies merge in the custom-built 14’ piece. A tea niche in the kitchen corner signals repose for one and a view onto the koi pond and landscape just beyond.
