60th Street Penthouse
New York, New York

This duplex apartment on the 59th and 60th floors of a high-rise next to Lincoln Center, is home to an avid lawn bowler and his family. The apartment was chosen for the views overlooking Central Park.
Our desire was to connect the home to the beloved park below, which was achieved by the inventive use of natural materials and bright colors, giving an overall polished profile to feel at home within the bones of the post-war slab building.
The color palette reflects a perfect day in the park; the bright orange kitchen is like the sun, while the dining and living spaces bask in its glow while the powder room uses dappled green earthen tiles to mimic the changing greens of leaves in the trees below. The interior furnishings were chosen to complete this idea; sky blue, natural woods and pebble patterns. The green carpet echoes the great lawn; the blue chairs reflect the bluest sky; and, the large wooden slab dining table anchors the space like an ancient tree. In the bath, natural pebbles were used on the shower floor, the pattern of the stones then etched by means of laser technology onto the room’s glass panels and elongated wardrobe cabinetry. Sleek, bold, and inviting, the final design was a perfect reflection of its inhabitants.
