This historic Park Slope townhouse was presented an opportunity to expand usable space on the lower level. Our goal was to step out into the garden area without disrupting the overall historical integrity of the space.

In order to reinstate a ‘true’ parlor floor, the kitchen was repositioned from the upper level to the garden level and additional square footage appended. Original window openings and sills were kept, now used as a liminal space between kitchen and the new dining area. The addition of skylights illuminates this new interior structural feature. The result is a minimal yet textured space that relates both to the historical as much to the modern in a timeless way.
